The Wesleyan Innocence Project is a student-run organization established, and officially recognized, in the Fall semester of 2005. Organization members investigate claims of innocence made by inmates in Texas and elsewhere, and they work with students, faculty, and local attorneys to secure and obtain exonerations for factually innocent individuals. The Wesleyan Innocence Project functions under the guidance of a faculty sponsor, Professor Aric Short, and its members work in conjunction with the Innocence Project of Texas (IPOT). IPOT is composed of organizations from a number of Texas law schools and undergraduate institutions, and it is dedicated to the pursuit of securing release for those wrongfully convicted of serious crimes in the state of Texas.
Recent Developments The Wesleyan Innocence Project is now a member of the Innocence Network (national). The Innocence Network is an affiliation of organizations dedicated to providing pro bono legal and investigative services to individuals seeking to prove innocence of crimes for which they have been convicted and working to redress the causes of wrongful convictions.
