Printer friendly version.

Texas Wesleyan University School of Law adjunct professor Joe Shannon has been sworn-in as the interim district attorney for Tarrant County.

Governor Rick Perry appointed Shannon following the death of former district attorney Tim Curry. Shannon’s appointment was approved by the state Senate and he was sworn in Friday, May 29.

Shannon joined the Tarrant County District Attorney’s Office in 1972. He left to practice family law in 1978 and returned in 1999 as head of the economic crimes unit.

Shannon has served as an adjunct professor at Texas Wesleyan School of Law since 1998 and teaches a course in marital property in the spring semesters. He said he enjoys the interaction with students and the chance to deal with the law in a non-adversarial setting.

The current D.A. term ends next year. An Associated Press report said that Shannon said he may run for the position in 2010.
