The prestigious Buck J. Wynne Memorial Scholarship was presented to 2L Elbia Munoz by Hal Ray, representing the law school committee of the State Bar of Texas Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section, in a ceremony at Texas Wesleyan School of Law on Jan. 30, 2013.
Munoz received the top grade in the Environmental Law course taught by Associate Professor of Law Timothy Mulvaney this past fall. “Ms. Munoz not only demonstrated command of the multiple complex federal environmental statutes we explored in this course in Environmental Law, but also an impressive grasp of the principles that underlie those statutes and the judicial decisions interpreting them,” Mulvaney said. “In light of her work ethic, professional demeanor and academic performance, I fully expect that she will have opportunities to pursue careers across multiple legal disciplines upon her graduation in May of 2014. However, she seems particularly well-equipped to make a lasting contribution to the practice of environmental law, if indeed she chooses that path.”
The scholarship is named in honor of Buck J. Wynne, a prominent environmental attorney and former regional administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. The SBOT Natural Resources Law Section sponsors an annual scholarship that is available to the top-ranking student in the introductory environmental law course at each law school in Texas.
“Ms. Munoz follows in the footsteps of several remarkable Texas Wesleyan students who have received the Buck J. Wynn Memorial Scholarship,” Mulvaney said.
“I am so appreciative of the generosity of the State Bar of Texas Environmental and Natural Resources Law Section for their continued support of students interested in environmental issues,” he concluded.
